Beacon Hall Event Raises Money for Soldier On

June 4th, 2018 - The Beacon Hall Golf Club in Aurora, ON welcomed 25 ill and injured members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) community to participate in a day of golfing, and to raise money for the Soldier On program.

The CAF contingent were paired with 100 golfers (one per foursome), who raised over $80,000 for the Solider On program on the day. Many of the 25 golfers were new to the program, which helps ill and injured CAF members re-discover the comradery and joy of sport.

The keynote for the event was delivered by Master Corporal (Ret’d) Étienne Aubé, a Combat Engineer who was injured in 2009 during his second tour in Afghanistan when he was hit by an improvised explosive device. He lost his right leg at the knee, two fingers, and severely wounded his left leg resulting in permanent nerve damage. An avid golfer before his injury, MCpl (Ret’d) Aubé, made it his goal to be able to play golf again, and he believes that the sport has been instrumental in his recovery. He is a proud Soldier On member, and a skilled golfer, who recently represented Canada at the 2017 Invictus Games.

Along with a great day on links that raised money for a very worthy cause, some lucky Soldier On participants will also receive the opportunity to play golf at the historic St. Andrews course in Scotland, thanks to the generosity of the Beacon Hall Planning Committee and our Corporate Sponsors.
