The National Summer Camps Program made it possible for almost 300 military children to experience camp this year

Hear first-hand from campers what they loved most about the camp experience!

The very popular National Summer Camps Program provides funding for children from military families to attend summer camp of their choice. Last year, due to COVID-19 and municipal and provincial restrictions, the program shifted to offer support for children attending day camp.

This year, with loosened restrictions, the Program was able safely to offer a week-long over night stays at an accredited summer camp. 11 year-old Emily Munroe received a grant to attend Camp Maple Leaf.

We asked Emily why she thought the summer camps program was important for military families:

“Summer camps like this are important to military families because kids that have lost family in the military don’t have to be alone, and other families that have lost people can connect through this camp.”
Her favorite things about camp were the outdoor activities, the counsellors, the food and making friends. She can’t wait for next year!

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and supporters, almost 300 military children attended camp this summer. We look forward to the 2022 summer camp season!
