National Scholarship Program

Each year, scholarships are awarded for full-time and part-time post-secondary education at an accredited academic institution…and the list keeps growing!

Applications are now closed.  All applicants will be notified of the selection committee's decision by August 31, 2018.

41 Scholarships available this year ranging from $500 to $2500.
  • You are a dependent (includes spouse) of a serving or former member of the Canadian Armed Forces;
  • You are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
  • You are enrolled in an undergraduate program leading to a degree, diploma or certificate at an accredited Canadian college or university.  Post graduate and career college students are also welcome to apply.
  • Opens on 30 March, 2018 and closes on 30 June, 2018 at 23:59hrs EST.

  • You may complete your application in French or English.

  • You must provide the following supporting documentation:

    • Proof of enrolment in a post-secondary program or a letter of acceptance at a college or university;

    • Current resume;

    • Most recent transcript;

    • Recommendation letter from a teacher, professor, academic advisor or community leader;

    • Maximum 500 word essay describing the impact of military life and the importance of a scholarship.

  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  • Your application will be reviewed by the Support Our Troops Scholarship Selection Committee.

  • If successful, you will be notified by email at the end of August.

  • Your application will be evaluated according to the following scoring table:

Persuasiveness = 25 pts

Creativity/originality = 25 pts

Financial need = 25 pts

Volunteer involvement = 25 pts

Work experience = 25 pts
  
  • If you plan to participate in a study abroad program you are eligible to apply provided it is included in the course curriculum of your school.

  • If you or a member of your family (parent, guardian, or spouse) is an employee, director, or officer of Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS) or its subsidiaries, you are not eligible for a scholarship.

  • Currently serving Canadian Armed Forces members are not eligible, except for Primary Reserve members of Manitoba. 

There are also a variety of additional scholarships and bursaries available to serving and former Canadian Armed Forces members and their families that are not administered by Support Our Troops. We would like to acknowledge the generosity of the educational institutions, government partners and charitable organizations who provide these programs.
