- Please read eligibility requirements carefully prior to submitting an application, in order to ensure you qualify as a candidate
- Please note that the format of the 2019 bursary application will consist of the following components:
- A three-part essay
- A letter of reference
- Most recent academic transcript
- Proof of enrollment from academic institution
- A point form list of volunteer/civic engagement activities
Instructions for three-part essay:
Paying close attention to grammar and spelling, please submit a three-part typed essay consisting of the following:
Part 1: In 250-300 words, describe how your connection to military life has helped to shape and prepare you for the future.
Part 2: In 500-600 words, discuss your academic and career goals and explain how you plan to achieve them.
Part 3: In 50-100 words, clarify the personal impact a Support Our Troops bursary would have if you were a chosen recipient.

Instructions for proof of enrollment:
Proof of enrollment (Letter of acceptance may also be considered) must contain:
- Institution name
- Student name
- Program name and length of program
- Program start date
Instructions for recent academic transcript:
Official or unofficial is acceptable. If taken from online student portal, it must contain your name, date, program and institution name. If your transcript is not available at the time of submission, please upload a word document stating that you will send it via email as soon as it is available. Send your transcript, once you receive it to
scholarshipsandcamps@cfmws.com (Subject line: Student Name – Transcript) and it will be filed accordingly.
Instructions for letter of reference:
Select a referee* whom you feel can most accurately and wholly attest to:
- your character
- your volunteer service
- your academic commitment
If your referee agrees, please ask them to write a maximum one-page letter of reference addressed to the Support Our Troops 2019 Bursary Application Committee and to include their name and current contact information for reference, if required.
*Please note that for the purpose of this bursary application, your selected referee may not be a family member.
Instructions for civic engagement/volunteerism:
Provide a point form document listing your civic engagement and volunteer work with a short description of each.
Best Practices:
- Read the writing questions/prompts and be sure you understand them before you start writing.
- Think about what you are going to write and organize your thoughts before you start writing.
- Use clear, concise and simple language throughout the essay. Write how you speak.
- Check your spelling and grammar. Spell check is not going to let you know that you spelled form instead of from!
- Read the questions/prompts again and then read your essay thoroughly to be certain that you have addressed every point.
- Have someone proof read your writing before you submit it.
Accuracy counts! If your information is not entered correctly during the application process, we may not be able to contact you.
- Ensure that you double check the spelling of your name and email and that your phone number is correct
